Other Leadership/service

    Ø  ArtsBridge America, UCF Board of Directors/mentor                November 2005 – 2008

This national organization, based at Lawrence University, in Appleton, WI, and established on the UCF Campus by Assistant Theater Professor, Megan Alrutz, serves as a curricular “bridge” between the arts and various academic curricula in order to facilitate learning in public school children, and to bridge the academic community of UCF with that of our Greater Orlando community.  As a mentor to Artsbridge Scholar and UCF Music Major, Maria Mathis, I was involved with working with the principal and the music teacher at Conway Elementary School, while supporting Maria in her classroom teaching role.  The outcome of Maria’s participation in ArtsBridge helped to improve the FCAT-driven reading, vocabulary and the information goals for the entire Conway Elementary third-grade class by means of an exceptionally well-received musical production, entitled “Dig It,” about an archeological dig, which involved the entire third grade faculty, school principal, art teacher and the Conway community.  As an ArtsBridge board member, I worked to increase the visibility and curricular inclusion of ArtsBridge as a means of experiential learning, and of town and gown cooperation.

Ø  Vocal Arts at UCF, Director/Faculty Member                                        June 19-23, 2006

This Vocal Arts Camp for high school soloists took place on the UCF Campus, and involved 8 faculty members and 26 high school participants in a densely-packed week of private lessons, Master Classes, musicianship training, movement classes, chorus and special topic presentations, mock auditions and culminated in a final public recital.  As a faculty member, I performed in recital, taught special topics classes, Master Classes, and taught 5 students for three lessons.

Related Professional Activities

Ø  Assistant to the Dean for Recruiting and Programs                    Spring Semester, 2005

DePauw University School of Music, Greencastle, IN

Served, essentially, as acting Music Admissions director, and achieved recruiting targets for School of Music and for Vocal Arts at DePauw, by initiating and maintaining contact with prospective School of Music students, coordinating communication between faculty and prospective students, and by organizing faculty recitals, audition days, and overnight stays.
